Middleway - Life on the A4540 Ring Road
The Middleway, the A4540 middle ring road, orbits the centre of Birmingham at an approximate distance of one kilometre. End to end, there is no end, just a constant moebius strip of road, transporting an endless flow of vehicles around the city. For the last two years I've taken several walks around its entirety, it's a hard road, uncompromising, dirty, unbeautiful. And yet, I keep coming back to it, to walk and walk and walk. There is no end, only the road.
